Check your SEO foundations
Can you explain crawling, indexing, search intent, internal links and authority? If not, choose broad foundations alongside AI-search lessons. If you already run campaigns, ask how much of the syllabus repeats fundamentals and how much tackles your current implementation problems.
Inspect citations, retrieval and entities
Look for practical work on source selection, content structure, technical access and consistent entity information. Ask what a finished exercise looks like. A syllabus mentioning GEO or AEO once is weaker evidence than lessons with defined outputs. Avoid treating terminology as proof of expertise.
Require a measurement plan
A useful course should distinguish mentions, linked citations, visits and business results. Ask whether it covers a repeatable prompt sample, dates, engine differences and uncertainty. A single attractive screenshot is not a measurement system. Check whether the lesson requires paid tracking software that is outside the course price.
Choose a format you will use
A self-paced course needs protected study time. A cohort needs availability on the scheduled dates. A community needs participation and recurring budget. Confirm whether recordings, feedback, exercises and certificates are included in your specific access plan.
Check freshness and red flags
Ask when the relevant lessons changed, not just when the sales page was updated. Be cautious about guaranteed rankings, guaranteed AI citations, unsupported earnings examples or pressure to buy before understanding the terms. Provider claims tell you what is advertised; they are not independent proof of results.
Your pre-purchase checklist
Confirm your learning objective; inspect the current syllabus; verify prerequisites; identify the practical deliverable; check total cost and tool requirements; confirm support and cancellation terms; try the free alternatives; then compare the shortlist against your actual gap. Keep a dated copy of the terms you rely on.
